JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A St. Augustine man accused of stabbing his wife to death at their West Michigan apartment maintains he did so in self-defense, according to reports.
Nicklas Luke Sheridan, 33, is charged with open murder in the death of 21-year-old Breann Sheridan, Kent County jail records show. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Police answering a Dec. 15 domestic assault call at the couple’s apartment near Grand Rapids found Sheridan’s wife stabbed multiple times, according to WOOD-TV.
She died at the scene.

Sheridan claimed it happened in self-defense. He said it was his wife who drew the knife on him, and that he disarmed her and then stabbed her twice to fend her off, MLive.com reported.
The website went on to say that a detective found traces of blood in several rooms at the apartment, as well as defensive injuries on the victim’s hands in addition to her other wounds.
Sheridan, his wife and their two children recently relocated to Michigan from St. Augustine, Florida, according to WOOD-TV’s report.
Jail logs show Sheridan remains in custody lieu of $1 million bond.
